Action at scale: Highlights of UNOPS Annual Report 2024

In 2024, UNOPS reaffirmed its commitment to helping tackle key global challenges and responding where needs are greatest.
In collaboration with the UN family, governments and other partners, we continued our work supporting conflict and crisis response efforts, managing critical peace and security operations, and helping to advance sustainable, resilient and inclusive development.
“In the face of the biggest global challenges, we remain dedicated to getting the job done, for a more peaceful, fairer and greener world for all. Always in partnerships. Always for the benefit of those left behind,” said UNOPS Executive Director Jorge Moreira da Silva.
Impact for the people we serve
Last year, UNOPS delivered projects in more than 130 countries and territories, with more than 66 per cent of our work delivered in special or fragile situations.
Ukraine
Following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Ukraine’s Chernihiv Region—which is integral to the country’s agricultural sector—has faced daunting challenges due to the presence of explosives. Vast tracts of agricultural land are now laden with mines and explosive remnants of war—crippling the region’s economic activity and posing severe safety risks to communities.
With funding from the government of France, UNOPS is providing training and tools to the National Police of Ukraine in the Chernihiv Region to enhance their capacity to find and safely manage explosives—improving safety in the area. These efforts are part of a broader initiative to restore the region’s agricultural productivity and ensure safe access to farmland, infrastructure, and essential services.
By equipping explosive ordnance disposal teams and supporting demining, UNOPS helps reduce threats that continue to endanger lives and hinder recovery. The return of cleared land to productive use not only bolsters food security but also empowers local communities to rebuild with confidence. Through sustained cooperation, technical support, and targeted investment, Ukraine is taking critical steps toward long-term stability and recovery.
